Birth Support

“A doula is like a trail guide — someone who’s walked the path before

and can offer gentle reassurance when the terrain gets tough.”

What is a Doula?

A doula (from the ancient Greek doúlÄ“, meaning “woman who serves”) is a non-medical companion who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support before, during, and shortly after childbirth. A doula does not replace a midwife or doctor, and does not perform clinical tasks or make medical decisions.

How I Support You

As your doula, I’m here to help you prepare emotionally and mentally for birth. During pregnancy, I support you in exploring your personal preferences, creating a birth plan (if you wish), and offering gentle, reassuring guidance. My role is to hold space for your unique experience, reduce fear or anxiety, and bring a grounded, calming presence.

We’ll meet three times before your estimated due date:

  • One no-obligation introductory meeting to get to know each other

  • Two additional sessions tailored to your needs and wishes

In these sessions, we might talk through your hopes, fears, birth options, previous experiences, and comfort techniques. I’m also available by phone or email from 9:00–20:00, and in emergencies outside of these hours.

During Birth

When labor begins, I offer continuous emotional support and physical comfort — such as breathing guidance, massage, position suggestions, and gentle encouragement. I stay with you throughout the entire birth, no matter how long it takes, and only leave once you feel settled and ready.

I'm also happy to:

  • Help create a calm, cozy atmosphere (lights, scents, music, etc.)

  • Assist with translation between German and English/French if needed

  • Take photos during labor or after birth (if desired)

After Birth

In the postpartum period, I offer one follow-up visit to reflect on your experience, answer any questions, and support your early transition into parenthood. I’m happy to hold and care for your baby while you take a shower or simply rest, but also prepare you breakfast or a meal. I can also help by running an errand on my way—whether it’s grocery shopping, pharmacy pickup, or dropping off a package—so you can focus on healing and bonding.

While I do not provide medical care, my focus is always on helping you feel seen, safe, supported, and respected throughout your birth journey.
